Born: 1953, Boston, Massachusetts

I started drawing and painting at an early age, which has led to my life’s passion. After graduating from college with a BFA in painting I moved to San Francisco in to further my art studies. I took a cross country camping trip to get here and fell in love with the great outdoors. I started out painting large format, conceptual color field pieces with scientific, mathematical, and metaphoric concerns. Each painting was a long, exacting process. I then realized I wanted a simpler, more fulfilling, looser approach to making visual images. So I returned to the figure and landscape. Drawing the human form has been a challenging and creative experience. Study of the undulating curves and complexities of the human form often translates to an understanding of the intricacies of interpreting a landscape. My passion lies in finding the forms defined by color, light and tone. Combining being outside with my passion for painting makes the art-making process a joy-filled, spiritual experience.

As a landscape painter en plein air I find that being outside, observing the ever changing dance of light, to be true witness to the face of God. Painting outdoors is awe inspiring and at times humbling. My goal is to capture this experience. Upon discovering the California Impressionists, I became impassioned with their method of painting. Combining the contemplation of nature, the beauty of sun and wind with the pleasure and challenge of capturing a moment in time are the vehicles for my painting.
